John W. King – April 24, 2014

John W. King, 79, of St. Marys, passed away Thursday, April 24, 2013 at his residence.
Mr. King was born September 21, 1934 in Weirton, West Virginia, and was the son of the late Oliver and Frances Straus King.
Mr. King had resided in Camden County for the past 8 years.  He was a Professor at Fairmont State University, and several other colleges and universities, retiring with 30 years of service.  He was a member of the Democrat’s, helping with many organizations on parades, and especially the St. Marys and Kingsland community gardens.  He loved gardening, biking, helping others to be self sufficient, and was very much a people person.
A Celebration of Mr. King’s Life will be held on Saturday, May 3, 2014, at Allison Memorial Chapel in St. Marys at 11 am.
Survivors include his wife, Rosemary King of St. Marys; sister, Ann Sapp of Orlando, FL; many nieces and nephews.
The family requests memorial contributions in memory of Mr. King, be made to Hospice of the Golden Isles, 1692 Glynco Parkway, Brunswick, GA  31525.

Sue Allen – April 23, 2014

Sue K. Allen, 75, of Kingsland, passed away Wednesday, April 23, 2014, at  University of Florida Health in Jacksonville, Florida.
Mrs. Allen was born August 10, 1938 in Grange, GA, to the late John T. and Wilma Simons Kelley.  She was also preceded in death by her son, Brian Allen.
Mrs. Allen had resided in Camden County since 1976, and had been employed with BOSC, transportation supervision at Kings Bay Naval Base, and In her earlier years she was a beautician.  Her life revolved around her family, with her main focus on health, happiness, and salvation for her family.  She was a member of the Lighthouse Church of God, and a devout Christian.  She will be loved and missed by her family, her church family and her many friends.
Funeral services were held Saturday, April 26, 2014 at 2 pm from the Lighthouse Church of God, with Pastor Bobby Woods officiating.  Burial followed at Lawnwood Cemetery in Kingsland.  The family received friends at the church one hour prior to services.
Survivors include her husband, Harry Allen of Kingsland; sons, Herschel Steven Allen (Elaine) of St. Marys, and Eric Allen (Marla) of Woodbine; sister, Delores Hall of Louisville, GA; brothers, John Kelley (Carol) of Jacksonville, FL, Billy Kelley (Stella) of Louisville, GA, and Ricky Kelley of St. Marys; 9 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers: Andrew Allen, Jeremy Allen, Devan Allen, C.J. Allen, Billy Kelley, Cody Kelley, Ron Kelley, Van Hall, Vic Hall, Kenneth Kelley, and Kevan Kelley.

Michael Roberts – April 17, 2014

Mr. Michael Lawrence Roberts, 59 of St. Marys,  passed away at his home on April 17,2014.

Mr. Roberts was born April 30,1954 in Jacksonville, Florida, and was the son of the late Wilfred and Grace Roberts. He was the oldest of their four children. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his twin sister, Marlene Roberts Mullins, and his brother in law, Randy Collupy.

He proudly served in the Air Force and Navy. He served the majority of his life’s work as a security officer and casino blackjack dealer in Las Vegas.

He loved his family and friends. He enjoyed talking with them and sharing stories and jokes. He made us smile and will be greatly missed.

Mr. Roberts is survived by his wife, Maria Roberts, his three sons: Mike, Mark, and Glenn Roberts; and three grandchildren: Savannah, Miles and Miley Roberts; his two siblings: Glen Roberts and Gracie Roberts Collupy.

Michael Roberts was deeply loved and will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

Memorial services were held on Monday evening, April 21, at 6 pm, at the Southeast Community Church in Kingsland.

David A. Hutcheson – April 10, 2014

David A. Hutcheson, 22, of Kingsland, passed away Thursday, April 10, 2014 at St. Vincent’s Hospital in Jacksonville, Florida.
David was born on December 8, 1991 in Jacksonville, Florida.  He was presently employed with Coastal Sheet Metal in Jacksonville for the past three years.  He loved to fish and was an avid Bulldog fan.  He was of the Baptist faith.
Memorial services were held Monday, April 14, 2014 at 3 pm, from Allison Memorial Chapel in St. Marys, with Brian Balkcom officiating.
Survivors include his parents, Mary and David Hutcheson of Kingsland; brother, Charlie Hutcheson of Kingsland; grandparents, Dorothy and Lafe Maynard of Kingsland; aunts, Ruth Hart and Tricia Maynard, both of Kingsland; uncles Patrick Maynard of Brunswick and Charlie Maynard of Kingsland; cousin, Amanda Klinner, and several other relatives.

Rebecca J. Johnson – April 8, 2014

Rebecca J. Johnson, 74, formerly of St. Marys, passed away Tuesday, April 8, 2014 at Hospice of the Golden Isles in Brunswick.
Born December 5, 1939, in Folkston, GA, she was the daughter of the late Lewis T. and Cora Lee Allen.  She was also preceded in death by her husband, William Johnson, two sisters, Madeline Smith and Desi Nichols, and two brothers, Louis Thomas Allen, Jr., and James Allen.
Mrs. Johnson lived in St. Marys many years prior to moving to Homeland, GA.  She was retired from Gilman Paper Mill, Bag Plant, and was a member of Burnt Fort Baptist Church.  She was a loving mother, sister, and grandmother.
Funeral services will be held from the graveside at Homeland Cemetery in Charlton County on Friday, April 11, 2014 at 11 am, with Pastor John Floyd officiating.
Pallbearers:  Mark Smith, Rusty Smith, Calvin Cox, Jr., Calvin Cox, Sr., JR Williams, and David Harris.  Honorary: Danny Douglas and Stephen Douglas.
Survivors include her sons, Leon Dyal, Jr. (Susan) and Richard Dyal of Kingsland; sister, Martis O’Quinn of Waverly; grandson, Robert Dyal, and several nieces and nephews.

Marcelle Jerome Meyers – April 4, 2014

Marcelle Jerome Myers, 57, of St. Marys, passed away Friday, April 4, 2014, surrounded by his family at his residence.
Mr. Myers was born July 20, 1956 in Folkston, GA.  He had been a resident of Camden County since 1986, and was the Boat Captain of the Cumberland Queen in St. Marys for 15 years.  He was a member of the Greater Trinity United Methodist Church, and enjoyed playing guitars and hand carving.
Survivors include his wife, Marcia Myers of Kingsland; four children, Tiffany Myers, Marcelle Myers, La’Tasha McBean, and Leslie Carter all of Kingsland; parents, Marcelle and Joyce Myers of St. Marys; twelve brothers and sisters, Gordon Myers (Shirley) of Atlanta, Shirley Furguson of Woodland Hills, CA, Catherine Richardson of Brunswick, Irneatha Myers of St. Marys, Avis Merritt of Brunswick, Joan Floyd of St. Marys, Gregory Myers of Jacksonville, FL, John Furguson (Mary) of Columbus, Johnny Myers (Ina) of Atlanta, Darryl Furguson (Donna) of St. Marys, Marcella Dawson (Dwayne, Sr) of Kingsland, and Lawanda Brooks (Duane) of Jacksonville, FL; seven grandchildren,Ja’Syan Grimes, Marquise Carter, Anthony Carter, Amaya Carter, Marcus Carter, Ma’Kayla Fuller, and Jaysean Myers; good friends, Eric, Gabrielle, and Patricia; many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
The family will be holding a Memorial service and Celebration of Mr. Myers life on Saturday,
April 12, 2014 at 11:30 am, at the Greater Trinity United Methodist Church in St. Marys, with Rev.
Eddie Conaway, Jr. officiating.

Eric A. Hitz – April 2, 2014

Eric Alan Hitz, 34, formerly of St. Marys, passed away suddenly, Wednesday, April 2, 2014 at his residence in Jacksonville, Florida.
Eric was born in the Panama Canal on October 31, 1979.  He had resided in St. Marys until 1988, then moving to Jacksonville, FL, in 2006.  His hobbies were music, drawing and computers
Funeral services were held on Monday, April 7, 2014 at 12 noon from Allison Memorial Chapel in St. Marys, with Pastor Rick Brody officiating.  Interment followed at Lawnwood Cemetery in Kingsland.  The family received friends and family one hour prior to service time.
Survivors include his wife, Lisa Hitz; son, Ryder James Hitz; parents, Robert and Charlotte Hitz of Kingsland; sister, Katie A. Hitz of Kingsland; several aunts, uncles, and cousins.  He was preceded in death by his grandparents, George and Geraldine Heatley, and Kenneth and Joan Balgie.

Ruby Mudick – April 3, 2014

Ruby Marie Mudick, 85, of St. Marys, passed away peacefully at her residence with her family by her side on Thursday, April 3, 2014.rs. Ruby was born May 3, 1928 in Henderson, Ky.  She was the daughter of the late Manley B. and Hallie Goodwin Robards.  She was also preceded in
death by her husband, Nicholas Mudick, sister, Dorothy Williams, and brother, Jimmy Robards.
Mrs. Ruby had been a resident of Camden County since 1954.  She
had been employed with Gilman Hospital prior to the hospital opening in
1960, retiring 38 years later, and was still working in the same capacity in the
business office when she started work in 1959.  On Friday, May 8, 1998, the
Mayor issued a proclamation, naming that day, “Mrs. Rudy Mudick Day”.
She was honored with a surprise luncheon on the lawn at Camden
Medical Center in St. Marys, with so many friends and family coming from far
and near.  She was a very special and loving woman who will be remembered
and loved forever.
Funeral services were held from the graveside at Oak Grove Cemetery in St.
Marys,  on Sunday, April 6, 2014, at 3 pm, with Pastor Steve Kegley
officiating.  The family received friends and family at Allison Memorial
Chapel in St. Marys, Saturday afternoon, April 5th, from 5 pm to 7 pm.
Survivors include her four daughters, Marie Ulmer (Roy) of St. Marys, Karen
Tyre (Joe) of Kingsland, Becki Hammett (Jimmy) of Colesburg, and Kim Bruce
(David) of White Oak; six grandchildren, Amy Richardson (Chris), James Ulmer
(Sara), Heather Metty (Matt), Jessica Huckaby (Paul), Tara Tyre (James), and
Hallie Bruce (Lance); 15 great grandchildren.

VanBuskirk – March 31, 2014

Belinda VanBuskirk, 62, of St. Marys, passed away on Monday, March 31, 2014, at Community Hospice, Morris Center in Jacksonville, FL.
Born on April 28, 1951, in Houlton, ME, she was the daughter of the late Earl and Della Anderson.
Mrs. VanBuskirk  had resided in Camden County for the past 37 years.  She graduated from Houlton High School in Houlton, Maine, and following graduation she enlisted into the U.S. Army, serving at White Sands Missle Range in Nevada for 3 years, then enlisted into the U.S. Navy, serving at Port Services Naval Base, in Charleston, SC. as a Store Keeper, Third Class Petty Officer.  She was honorably discharged from the U.S. Navy in 1977.
Mrs. VanBuskirk was a Library Technician at Kingsbay Naval Submarine Base, later with the Security Department, Kingsbay, Civil Service, and worked several years as a Library Technician at the St. Marys Library.  Following several other employment’s, she retired early in 2013.
A gathering of friends and family will be held on Saturday, April 5, 2014 from 11 am to 12 pm at Allison Memorial Chapel in St. Marys.  Her wishes were to be cremated, with her ashes to be buried at sea.
Survivors include her husband Steven A VanBuskirk, USN (Ret.) of St. Marys, and a sister, Bonita McCormick and her family of Idaho.
The family requests for memorial contributions in memory of Mrs. VanBuskirk be made to the American Cancer Society.
