Randy L. Deemer – April 28, 2015

Randy L. Deemer, 57, of St. Marys, passed away Tuesday, April 28, 2015 at Southeast Georgia Health System, Camden.
Randy was born March 15, 1958 in Ligonier, PA.  He had been a resident of Camden County since 1999, and was retired from the U.S. Navy with 15 years of service.  He was employed with Lockheed Martin as a Senior Cable Fabricator.
Randy was a devoted husband, son, father and grandfather.
A Celebration of Randy’s Life will be held Friday, May 1, 2015 at 3:30 pm at Allison Memorial Chapel in St. Marys with full Military Honors.
Survivors include his wife, Penny Deemer of St. Marys; mother, Anna Deemer of Ligonier, PA; daughter Amanda Deemer Bostock (Adrian) of Greensburg, PA; step-sons, William Hoffer and Timothy Hoffer of Latrobe, PA; brother, Brian Deemer (Jenny) of Waterford, PA; grandchild, Kaden Matthews and several nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his father, James Deemer and two sisters.

Diane Z. Hayes – April 26, 2015

Diane Z. Hayes, 71, of St. Marys, passed away Sunday, April 26, 2015 at the Senior Care Center in St. Marys.
Born August 30, 1943 in Camillus, NY., she was the daughter of the late Frank and Josephine B. Grant.  She was also preceded in death by her husband, Edwin John Hayes, Jr.
Mrs. Hayes had been a resident of Camden County for the past 11 years.  She was a member of Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church in St. Marys, and was instrumental in founding the Open Arms Cancer support group.  She enjoyed shopping, visiting with her friends and loved her little dog, Willy.
Survivors include a brother, Wayne Grant of Syracuse, NY and several nieces and nephews, and her loving and supportive friends.
A Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, May 1, 2015 at 11 am, at Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church with Fr. Mariusz Fuks officiating.  A private burial will be held at the Jacksonville National Cemetery.

Lataine V. Peeples – April 24, 2015

Lataine V. Peeples, 89, of Kingsland, passed away Friday, April 24, 2015 at
the Senior Care Center in Brunswick.

Born January 9, 1926 in Alma, GA, she was the daughter of the late Albert P.
and Penelope Nelson Taylor.  She was also preceded in death by her husband,
Norris Peeples, first husband, Clarence Horne, two brothers and four
sisters.

Mrs. Peeples had been a resident of Camden County since 1960. She was a
member of the Kingsland First Baptist Church where she served many years in
the church nursery, as well as being very active with the Homebound and
Bereavement Ministries.

Funeral services will be held Monday, April 27, 2015, at the Kingsland First
Baptist Church at 2 pm, with Rev. Vernon Dillingham and Dr. Allen Hughes
officiating.  Burial will follow at the Peeples-Brazell Cemetery in
Kingsland.

The family will receive friends on Sunday, April 26th at Allison Memorial
Chapel in St. Marys from 4 to 6 pm.

Pallbearers:  Chris Horne, Chad Ingram, Craig Horne, Steve Kroscavage,
Ronald Hughes, and Steve Taylor.  Honorary: The Joy Sunday School Class.

Survivors include her son, Donald Horne (Linda) of Brunswick; daughter,
Sharon Ingram (Johnny) of St. Marys; two brothers, W.A. Taylor (Jerri) of
Lakeland and Larry Taylor of Whiteoak; two sisters, Christine Hardaway of
Whiteoak and Teresa Kelley of Jacksonville, FL; four grandchildren, Kim
Horne Kroscavage (Steve), Chris Horne (Jennifer), John Chad Ingram, and
Craig Horne; five great grandchildren, Madison Horne, Avery Kroscavage,
Ansley Ingram, Eli Horne, and Kennedy Horne; many nieces and nephews.

Jerry B. Thomas – April 21, 2015

Jerry B. Thomas, 55, of Brunswick, passed away suddenly on Tuesday, April 21, 2015.
Jerry was born January 27, 1960 in Folkston, GA, and was the son of the late Frank Y. and Annie Ulmer Thomas.
Jerry had been a resident of Camden County most all of his life before moving to Brunswick several years ago.  He was employed with Poteet Seafood Company in Brunswick for the past 12 years, doing what he loved the most shrimping and fishing.  Being said by all, he had a heart of gold, and was a giving and loving man.  He will be missed by his family and many friends.
A Celebration of Jerry’s Life will be held Friday, April 24, 2015 at 11:00 am at Allison Memorial Chapel in St. Marys with Pastor Samuel Spradley officiating.  A private inurnment will be held at a later date.
Survivors include a brother and sister in law, Michael and Sharon Thomas of Hortense; several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins, and his boss and mentor, Speedy Tostensen.

H.C. “Sonny” Leigh – April 18, 2015

H.C. “Sonny” Leigh, 73, also known as “Poppy” of Woodbine, GA passed away at his home on Saturday morning, April 18, 2015.
Sonny was born in St. Petersburg, FL on March 16, 1942, and has resided in Woodbine since 1969. He was proceeded in death by his parents, Cecil and Bettie Leigh of St. Petersburg, FL.
Sonny is survived by his wife of 54 years, M. Carol Leigh, daughter, Cassy Leigh Carter, Kingsland and son Chris (Rhonda) Leigh, Jacksonville, FL; brothers Tim (Ticia) Leigh and Johnny Leigh of St. Petersburg, FL; eight grandchildren, Brett, Megan, and Lauren Carter of Camden County, James Leigh, Heather Myers, Kristen Smith, Ashley Moore, Lindsey Thornton and four great-grandchildren all Jacksonville, FL. 
Sonny worked at 1st Federal Savings & Loan and General Telephone in St. Petersburg before moving to Woodbine 1969 where he was manager of Horne’s Restaurant. He worked for Union Camp Wood Yard and the Woodbine Police Department for a number of years. He also worked security at Kings Bay Naval Base. He later owned and operated Pampered Pets Resort in St. Marys. He enjoyed traveling and took many cross country trips and cruises with family and friends. He loved his pets and enjoyed keeping his yard mowed.
A Celebration of Sonny’s Life will be held at 5pm on Friday, April 24th, 2015 at Allison Memorial Chapel, 10141 Colerain Road, St. Marys, GA.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association or your local animal rescue shelter.

Charles Pruitt Gibson – April 12, 2015

Charles Pruitt Gibson, 54, of Mt. Pleasant, SC, passed away unexpectedly Sunday, April 12, 2015, at Roper St. Francis Mt. Pleasant Hospital.
Pruitt was born November 14, 1960 in Summerville, SC, and was the son of the late Charles B. and Betty P. Gibson.
Pruitt had been a resident of Camden County for numerous years prior to returning to Mt. Pleasant in 2011.  He attended Life Park Church in Mt. Pleasant and was self-employed in Construction Management.  Pruitt enjoyed offshore fishing and diving, and most of all spending time with his son, Chase.
Survivors include his son, Chase and former wife, Kelly of Kingsland; sister, Kim Hogge (Randy) of Mt. Pleasant, SC; father in law and mother in law, Tom and Helen Quinn of St. Marys; brother in law, Cliff Quinn of Douglas; sister in law, Kathy Long (Steve) of St. Marys; nephews, Cole Hogge of Mt. Pleasant, SC, Clifton Quinn of St. Marys, Chris Quinn of Kingsland, and Tyler Long of St. Marys.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, April 15, at 2 pm at Westside Baptist Church in St. Marys, with Pastor Greg Gardell and Pastor Mark Gentry officiating.  Burial to follow at Oak Grove Cemetery in St. Marys.  The family will receive friends on Tuesday, April 14, from 6 to 8 pm at Allison Memorial Chapel in St. Marys.
Pallbearers: Steve Long, Tyler Long, Cliff Quinn, Clifton Quinn, Chris Quinn and Randy Willey.

Thomas L. States – April 1, 2015

Thomas L. States, 75, of Waverly, passed away Wednesday, April 1, 2015 at his residence.

Born in Indiana County, PA, on July 4, 1939, he was the son of the late Thomas and Maude Pease States.  He was also preceded in death by a son, Thomas Irving States.

Mr. States had been a resident of Camden County since 1989, and was a veteran of the United States Navy, retiring with 30 years of service.  Following his retirement, he was employed with the Kings Bay Naval Base Commissary and retired from there with 22 years of service.  He was a member of the Fleet Reserve, the Fraternal Order of the Eagles, the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #8385, and the American Legion.  He enjoyed fishing, football and was of the Baptist faith.

Survivors include his wife, Carol States of Waverly; daughter, Pamela Sue Dixon of Brunswick; sisters and brothers, Cindy, Ted, Walter, and Ike; five grandchildren, four great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held on Monday, April 6, 2015 from 11 am to 12 noon at Allison Memorial Chapel in St. Marys.  A graveside service will be held Monday, at 2 pm at Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery in Brunswick with Pastor Jimmy States officiating and with full Military Honors.

The family requests memorial contributions in memory of Mr. States be made to the Alzheimer’s Foundation for Research.

Della M. Kobryn – April 1, 2015

Della M. Kobryn, 75, life long resident of Waverly, passed away Wednesday, April 1, 2015, with her family at her side.
Born July 15, 1939 in Waverly, GA, she was the daughter of the late Henry and Julia Drury Strickland.  She was also preceded in death by her husband, Michael L. Kobryn and daughter, Susan Hinnant.
Mrs. Kobryn was an animal lover of all kinds and was a Homemaker.  She was a loving mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, and was of the Baptist faith.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, April 4, 2015 at 1:00 pm from the graveside at Homeward Cemetery, with Pastor Raymond Drury officiating.
Pallbearers: David Strickland, Randy Bellflower, Leon Wilson, Jimmy Strickland, Robert Strickland, and Tony Woodard.  Honorary: Dr. Eric Bournigal, Dr. William Grubb and staff, nurses of CCU at Southeast Georgia Health System Brunswick, J.D. Strickland, Dick Scarlett, and Tony Broach.
Survivors include her son, Alan Kobryn of Waverly; brother, George Strickland of Woodbine; granddaughter, Tiffany Vars; 2 great grandchildren, A.J. Vars and Dylan Vars.
The family requests memorial contributions in memory of Mrs. Della Kobryn be made to the Camden Humane Society.

Brenda Stephens Wainright – March 31, 2015

Brenda S. Wainright, 66, of Kingsland, passed away Tuesday, March 31, 2015 at her residence.

Born March 31, 1949 in Savannah, Georgia, she was the daughter of the late Mellie Hugh Stephens and Susie Morris Stephens.  She was also preceded in death by her husband Joseph Eugene Wainright and brother, James Stephens.

Brenda had lived in Camden County most of her life.  She had been employed with the Camden County Tax Commissioner’s Office, serving as Tax Commissioner for 30 years.  She loved fishing, skiing and all water life activities.  Brenda was a devoted aunt who treated her nieces as her own.  She was a member of the Kingsland First Baptist Church.

A gathering of friends and family to celebrate Brenda’s life will be held Saturday, April 4, 2015 at 11 am at Allison Memorial Chapel in St. Marys.

Survivors include her brother, Robert A. Stephens (Linda) of Ludowici; three nieces, Joi Stephens, of Jacksonville, FL, Dana Coppock (Lorin) of Savannah, and Kelley Burns (Ryan) of Statesboro; seven great nieces and nephews.
