Erica Joy Campbell – May 22, 2015

Erica Joy Campbell, 83, of St. Marys passed away peacefully on Friday, May 22, 2015 after a courageous fight and is now at peace with her Lord.  She will be sadly missed by her family and friends

Born In South Africa on 13 January, 1932, Joy was the eldest of 2 children.  Her and her husband, who preceded her in death, moved to the USA  in 1993 and lived in Los Angeles for 14 years.  In 2007 the entire family relocated to St Marys.

Joy loved life and lived it to its fullest.  She was the swim coach at her daughters’ school in South Africa, worked in the Banking industry, and travelled the world while in her early twenties.   She loved her family and was in total awe of her Grandchildren and Great Grandchildren.

Joy is survived by, Daughters Diane Brown and Jenny Whitt, son-in-law, David Brown, Grandchildren Kendell Tickell, Colton Tickell (in marriage) and Kamden Olsen, and great grand children, Emma Rae Tickell and Henry Cash Tickell, all from Camden County

There will be a Mass Service at Our Lady Star of the Sea on Tuesday May 26, 2015 at 11:00 am.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested Donations  be made to Our Lady Star of the Sea, 106 E. Dillingham St, St Marys, GA 31558.

Kim Robert Sewell – May 22, 2015

Kim Robert Sewell, age 55, of St. Marys passed away Friday, May 22, 2015, after a long battle of throat cancer.
Kim is survived by his wife, JoElla Sewell of 28 years, his daughter, Marleigh Jo Sewell, both of Saint Marys, Georgia, 2 stepsons Gary Clark of Cordele, Georgia and Chis Clark of Hilton Head, South Carolina.
He is also survived by his mother, Marlene and JB Bridgeman of Grover Beach, California and father Horace Neil “Eli” and Ruth Sewell of Inverness, Florida. Brother, Tim Sewell (Jeannine) Sewell of Vienna, Georgia and Sister Heidi LeQuene of California , two grandchildren Kris and Kymma Grady of Saint Marys Georgia, several nieces, nephews, sister in laws, brother in laws, great grandchildren whom he all loved dearly. Friends and other adopted family that loved him a lot and he loved.
The family will be holding a Celebration of Kim’s Life at their residence at a later date.

Edna Mae Manning – May 20, 2015

Edna Mae Manning, 64, of St. Marys  passed away Wednesday, May 20, 2015 at Hospice of the Golden Isles in Brunswick.

Born May 27, 1950 in Collins, Georgia, she was the daughter of the late Gus and Janie Stapleton Gay.  She was also preceded in death by her husband E.J. Manning, sister, Affie Gay Martin and brother, Gus Gay, Jr. Edna had resided in Camden County most all of her life.  She was a graduate of Camden County High School and graduate of Coastal Georgia Community College.  She had been employed with Gilman Paper Company, was a substitute teacher in Pierce County, an her last employment was with Jackson Hewitt Tax Service.  She enjoyed fishing and working with arts and crafts.  She was a member of Pine Grove Baptist Church in Blackshear.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, May 23, 2015 at 10 am at Allison Memorial Chapel in St. Marys with Pastor Greg Gardell officiating.  Burial will follow at Ben James Cemetery in Blackshear, with Pastor Buddy Griner officiating.  The family will receive friends on Friday, May 22nd, at Allison Memorial Chapel in St. Marys from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm.

Survivors include her son, Stephen Riley (Diane) of Statesboro; daughter Karen Miller (Rowdy Brandon) of St. Marys; sister, Annette Moore (Bo) and brother, Michael West (Kim) all of St. Marys; five grandchildren, Alex Warren (Heather), Alexis Warren, Rowdy Lee Miller, Scarlett Riley, and Cloe Miller; one grandchild, Ellie Mae Warren; several nieces and nephews.

Elizabeth Ann Basse – May 20, 2015

Elizabeth Ann Basse, 72, of Kingsland passed away early this morning, Wednesday, May 20, 2015 at Southeast Georgia Health System, Camden Campus.

No services are scheduled at this time.

Betty Jean Brazell – May 15, 2015

Betty J. Brazell, 68, of St. Marys passed away Friday, May 15, 2015, at Memorial Hospital in Jacksonville, FL.
Born October 25, 1946 in Brunswick, GA, she was the daughter of the late Arthur L. and Myrtle Head Horne.  She was also preceded in death by her husband of 23 years, Leonard S. Brazell and son, Dan Brazell.
Mrs. Brazell was a life long resident of Camden County and a 1964 graduate of Camden County High School, and graduate of Georgia Military College.  She wore many hats in her employment years.  She was a Forest Tower Outlook for several years, worked at Gilman Paper Company, Kraft Bag Division, was a Teachers Aide at St. Marys Elementary School, as well as a Librarian at Trident Refit Facility, and the T.R.F. coordinator  for Camden County Schools.
Mrs. Brazell made Easter Baskets for children all over town , and was a director and actress for the Camden Area Players and Camden High Theater group.  She was an avid reader, artist, and enjoyed doing all types of crafts.  She was a member of the Eastern Star and the Aeronautical Workers Union.  A loving sister, grandmother and aunt, she will be missed by her family and many friends.
Graveside services will be held on Wednesday, May 20, 2015 at 11:00 am at Brazell-Peeples Cemetery in Kingsland with Pastor Steve Kegley officiating.  The family will receive friends at Allison Memorial Chapel in St. Marys, Tuesday evening from 6 pm to 8 pm.
Survivors include her fiancee, Pat Betchik of St. Marys; sister and brother in law, Faye and Ken Bailey of St. Marys; granddaughter, Kristie Brazell; special niece, Kim Pope (Jim) and their children, Ashley and Cameron.

Jose Rafael Peniza – May 13, 2015

Jose Rafael Peniza, 66, of St. Marys, passed away on Wednesday, May 13, 2015 at Hospice of the Golden Isles in Brunswick.
Born January 25, 1949 in San Juan, Puerto Rico, he was the son of the late Agustin R. and Maria Louisa Melendez Peniza.  He was also preceded in death by his brother, Ivan Peniza.
Mr. Peniza had resided in Camden County since 1998, and was retired Civil Service Federal Communication Commission with 25 years of service.  He was a veteran of the United States Army, serving his country honorably during the Vietnam Era.  He enjoyed fishing, burning things on the grill, computers, and most of all loved his grandbabies.
Survivors include his wife, Kathie Peniza of St. Marys; children, Joshwin A. Peniza (Bobbi Jo) of Jacksonville, FL, and Andrea Gallegos (Deryck) of Rupert, ID; four brothers, Agustin Peniza of Reno, NV, Rene Peniza of Panama City, FL, Carlos Peniza of Bayamon, Puerto Rico, and Angel Peniza of Houston, TX; sister, Maria del Pilar of Miami, FL; step-daughter, Amanda Leite of Cordova, TN; seven grandchildren, Cassandra Peniza, Courtney Peniza, Jacelyn Gallegos, Gabriel Rafael Gallegos, Camille Gallegos, Makayla Leite, and Gavin Leite; many nieces and nephews.
Private services will be held at a later date.
The family requests memorial contributions be made in memory of Jose R. Peniza to the American Cancer Society.

Ralph Rudolph Giese – May 12, 2015

Ralph Giese,92, of St. Marys passed away at the Folkston Park Senior Care center in Folkston, GA following a courageous battle with Alzheimer’s disease.

He was born March 31,1923 in Green Bay, WI, served in the US Navy during WWII and was employed for over 40 years as a machinist for Chain Belt/Rexnord Corp. He was very active in the VFW for many years as a “Cootie” member; he was a volunteer for the Franklin Fire Dept. and also Boy Scout leader for 17 years. Ralph will be forever loved by those he left behind. He is preceded in death by his parents Rudolph and Mayme Giese, his beloved wife Betty Jean (McMahan) and his stepson David Schneider.

Survivors include a brother Karl Giese, Silver City, NM; children Allan and Cathy Giese of St Marys, GA and step-daughters Pat Polachowski and  Kay Huston, Racine, WI; Ann Hayes, Boydton VA along with many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Funeral service on Tuesday, May 26th begins with a Patriot Guard Riders motorcycle escort at 2:00 pm from Folkston Park followed at 3:00 pm by mass at Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic church in St Marys, GA. A Memorial Service is scheduled in Milwaukee WI at 11:00am on June 19th at Mount Olivet Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers family requests memorials in Ralph’s name may be made to Natures Conservancy or Boy Scouts of America.

William Earl Fowler – May 11, 2015

William E. Fowler, 64, of Kingsland, passed away Monday, May 11, 2015 at Southeast Georgia Health System, Camden Campus.

Mr. Fowler was born November 21, 1950 in Rock Hill, SC.  He had resided in Camden County for the past seven years and was a member of the Hidden Treasures Assembly of God.  He was a great man of God, ministering to youth and prisoners.  He was employed with the Camden County School System as a Bus Driver, and loved all the children that rode his bus, as well as playing Santa during Christmas to needy children.  He was a loving father, brother, and grandfather.

A private inurnment will be held at a later date.

Willie “Mackie” Woods, Jr. – May 11, 2015

Willie “Mackie” Woods, Jr., 72, of St. Marys, passed away Monday, May 11, 2015 at his residence.
Born July 15, 1942 in Jacksonville, Florida, he was the son of the late Willie M. Woods, Sr., and the late Roberta Smith Woods.  He was also preceded in death by his sister, Sonja Warren.
Mackie had been a resident of Camden County for the past 53 years.  He was a veteran of the United States Navy with 6 years of service and had worked for the St. Marys Railroad for 14 years.  He started in the Auto Body Shop business working for his father as a young boy.
He owned the former Mackie’s Body Shop and Woodbine Auto Body, and was the present owner of Camden Collision Center in St. Marys, having been in the Auto Body business for 50 years.  He was a member of the Lighthouse Church of God in St. Marys.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, May 15, 2015, at 11:00 am at Allison Memorial Chapel in St. Marys, with Pastor Bobby Woods officiating.  The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday evening, May 14th, from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Ellen Woods; six children, Theresa Marr (Eugene), Bobby Woods (Wendy), Debbie Kent (Chris), Willie Woods, III, Kimberly McKendree (Byron), and Terri Woods; two sisters, Debbie Harrison and Kathy Marx (Gregg); thirteen grandchildren, Stephen, Whitney, Kayla, Brandi, Kyle, Tera, Kori, Hunter, Morgan, Jaleigh, Rayen, Chase, and Macy Greyce; four great grandchildren, Lexie, Briana, Tagean, and Makynli; many nieces and nephews.
