Helen E. Wood – February 27, 2017

Helen E. Wood, 77, of St. Marys passed away Monday, February 27, 2017 at Southeast Georgia Health System, Camden Campus.
Born February 8, 1940, in Oceanside, NY, she was the daughter of the late Nicholas and Helen Russo.  She was also preceded in death by her husband William H. Wood, Sr., daughter, Donna Wood, and great grandson, Michael.
Mrs. Wood had been a resident of Camden County for the past 18 years.  She was a loving mother, sister, grandmother, and great grandmother.
Survivors include her son, William H. Wood, Jr. (Diane) of St. Marys; daughter Darlene Woods (Richard) of New York; brother, Nicholas Russo, Jr. of New York; 9 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
Private family services will be held at a later date.

Peggy Turner – February 24, 2017

Peggy D. Turner, 82, of St. Marys, GA,  passed away Friday, February 24, 2017 at St. Vincent’s Hospital in Jacksonville, FL.
 
Born May 17, 1934 in Charleston, West Virginia, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Hilda Carper.  She was also preceded in death by her husband, Jackson Stanford Turner.
 
Mrs. Turner had been a resident of Camden County since 1980 and was a member of Agape Christian Fellowship Church.  She represented her church by visiting the Senior Care Center in St. Marys once a week, also monthly where she celebrated the birthdays of the Senior Care Citizens.  She was a member of God’s Girls Bible Study.  Mrs. Turner was a loving mother, grandmother, and sister.
 
Survivors include her four daughters, Sandy Bryan (Ed) and Jolene Taylor of Pinch, WV, Bambi Larch (Joe) of Elkview, WV, and Tammy Boggs (Blaine) of St. Marys, GA; brother, John Carper (Midge) of Quick, WV; 8 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
 
Mrs. Turner will be entombed with her beloved husband, Jack, at Elk Hills Memorial Park in Charleston, WV.

Jesse Durbin – February 19, 2017

Jesse Lewis Durbin, 67, of St. Marys passed away Sunday, February 19, 2017 at Southeast Georgia Health System in Brunswick.
Born December 19, 1949 in Salem, Oregon, he was the son of the late Warren and Pansy Durbin.  He was also preceded in death by four brothers and three sisters.
Jesse was a Hospital Corpsman in the United States Navy, and served his country honorably retiring with 24 years of service.  He was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Kings Bay, and was a loving husband, father, brother, grandfather, and great-grandfather.
Survivors include his wife, Susan E. Durbin of St. Marys; daughters, Tina Frank (Eric) of St. Marys, Aimee Donahue (Jim) of Kingsland, and Jessie Durbin of St. Marys; son, Jonathan Durbin of St. Marys; brother, Charles Durbin, Sr. (Therese) of Salem, OR; sister, Theresa Wallace of Eufaula, OK; seven grandchildren, Michael Frank (Morgan), Anthony Frank, Kimberlin Frank, Ashly Gentile (Jeffrey), Abigail Donahue, Robert Donahue, and Rafael Fernandez; four great grandchildren, Dresden, Daniel, Lucas, and Cole; two Godchildren, Matt Durbin, and Margaret Schlag; several nieces and nephews.
A Funeral Mass will be held Thursday, March 2nd at St. Francis of Assisi Kings Bay at 11:15 am with Fr. Ray Leonard, Fr. Stephen Gergel and Fr. John Kaul officiating.  The family will receive friends at Allison Memorial Chapel Wednesday March 1st, from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm.
An Entombment will be held Monday, March 6th at Belcrest Memorial Park in Salem, Oregon, with full military honors.
The family requests memorial contributions in memory of Jesse L. Durbin be made to the American Heart Association.

Gary David Dubois – February 20, 2017

Gary David Dubois, 48, of St. Marys, GA, passed away on Monday, February 20, 2017.
Gary was born November 29, 1968 in Rochester, NH, to the late Thomas and Lillian Dubois.  He
was raised in Somersworth, NH. Gary was the youngest of five siblings. Growing up he was a star athlete who loved the outdoors. He graduated from Somersworth High School in 1988. He became employed at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard, then transferred to the Kings Bay Georgia Naval Subbase in 1992. He went through an apprentice program for welding, then after over 20 years of service went on to become a shop supervisor. He met the love of his life, Anne in 1999 and they then married in 2003 . Gary was a dedicated father and husband who knew how important a family element was. He was loved by everyone he met, Gary’s extended family in Scotland adored him. He had a great passion for the outdoors which he loved sharing with his family. Gary will be truly missed, not only by his survivors but also by anyone who may have had the pleasure of knowing him.
Survivors include his wife, Anne Dubois, daughter, Stacey Wharton, two sons, Adam Wharton and Matthew Dubois, granddaughter, Ava Wharton; two brothers, Michael Dubois and Peter Dubois; two sisters, Cheryl Lagueux and Betty Lussier; Miller family in Scotland and all other extended family in NH and ME.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, February 28, 2017 at 11:00 am at Allison Memorial Chapel in St. Marys, GA, with Pastor Steve Kegley officiating.  The family will receive friends at the funeral home Monday evening from 5 pm to 7 pm.

Glen Mitchell Kirk – February 20, 2017

Glen Mitchell “Bubba” Kirk, 57, of Kingsland, passed away Monday, February 20, 2017 at his residence.
Born October 3, 1959 in Jacksonville, FL, he was the son of the late Ed and Geri Wood.  He was also preceded in death by his son, Glen Mitchell Kirk Jr., twin sister, Lynn Robinson, and two brothers, David an Johnny Knight.
Glen had resided in Camden County since 2004 and was employed as an electrician at Kingsbay Naval Base since 1998.  He enjoyed fishing, a huge gator fan, and it was said he was fun loving and life of the party.  Glen was a loving husband, father, brother, uncle and friend.
Survivors include his wife, Lynda Kirk and daughter Payton Kirk of Kingsland; sister, Cindy Cook of Jacksonville, FL; sister in law, Laurie A. Morton of Kingsland; mother in laws, Jeanne Murphy of St. Marys and Margaret Turney of St. Pete, FL; nieces, Shawna, Katelyn, Jessica, Melissa, and Michelle; nephew, Donald, and great nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, February 25th at 12 noon at Allison Memorial Chapel in St. Marys.  The family will receive friends one hour prior to service time.  Burial will follow at Lawnwood Cemetery in Kingsland.
Pallbearers: Michael Ray Perkins, Ricky Bickley, Jimmy Pausche, Joshua Palm, Brian Conner, Fadi Senan, David Harper, Donald Cook.  Honorary: Co-workers at Kingsbay Support Services.

Randy A. Horn – February 18, 2017

Randy Alexander Horn, 62, of Kingsland, GA went to be with his beloved wife Linda Horn in Heaven on February 18, 2017.  
He was born April 9, 1954, to the late George Everett and Shirley Alexander Horn. Randy was an amazing performer and enthusiastic radio announcer.  He made his way in life performing with The Traveling Vaudeville Show, “Baggy Pants & Company” out of New York City and traveling the country with “Giggles Galore Comedy Show”.  When he decided to settle down, he chose the Southeast Coast.  His performance ambition lead him to become a long-standing radio announcer.  Starting at WAPE, WQIK, and then to KC93, he was able to develop his skills to take on his position at KBAY106, for which he was a apart of the community in action for over 33 years.  Throughout his life, he was in contact with so many amazing country artists and other talented people, including one of his own personal highlights being Red Skelton.  Randy was also an active member of St. Mary’s Little Theatre and always supported his community with pride in anyway he could.
 
Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Linda Sue Horn.
 
He is survived by a daughter Jessica Horn of Houston, Tx; a son Timothy Harris(Gerry) of Kingsland, GA; a brother Gary Horn(Patty) of Middleburg, FL; a sister Glenda Gimbel(Michael) of Ponte Vedra Bch, FL; Grandchildren: Patricia Sanders(Guy), Christina Tillman-Bean, Stephanie Sizemore(Jordan), Mathew Mork(Kelsey); and 8 great-grandchildren.
 
The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m. Wednesday Feb 22, 2017 at Allison Memorial Chapel, 10141 Colerain Rd, St. Mary, 31558.
 
Funeral services will held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Feb 23, 2017 at Restoration Church, 2475 Village Drive,  Kingsland, GA 31548.  Pastor Gregg Gardell and Pastor Jordan Sizemore officiating.  Burial to follow at Lawnwood Cemetery.
Pallbearers presenting are Jim Proctor, Kenneth Smith, Bruce Nelson, Andrew Muller, Terry Smith, and Lee Spell.

Richard Cody Norton – February 17, 2017

Richard Cody Norton, 21, of St. Marys, passed away Friday, February 17, 2017
at the Southeast Georgia Health System, Camden Campus.

Cody was born February 18, 1995 in Brunswick, GA, and was a lifelong
resident of Camden County.  He was a loving husband, father, son, grandson
and brother.

Memorial services will be held Wednesday, February 22, 2017 at 11:00 am at
Allison Memorial Chapel in St. Marys with Tony Barber officiating.  A
reception will immediately follow the services at North River Cabin, 270 E.
Meeting Street in St. Marys.

Survivors include his wife, Madison Pittman-Norton, daughter, Madeline Grace
Norton, two step-daughters, Emily Elizabeth Pittman and Sophia Mae Malone
all of St. Marys; parents, Rick and Cindy Norton, sisters, Heather Clark
(Shawn), and Marinna Norton all of White Oak; half brother, Shawn Norton of
Brunswick; grandmothers, Lora Carter and Margaret Norton, several nieces and
a nephew.

Virginia Purvis Lang – February 12, 2017

Virginia Purvis Lang, 88, of St. Marys passed away Sunday, February 12, 2017 at the Senior Care Center in St. Marys.
Born August 8, 1928 in Glenwood, GA, she was the daughter of the late Alfred and Minnie McDaniel Purvis.  In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her daughter, Mary Lang Fulford.
Mrs. Lang was a long time resident of Camden County of 67 years.  She was a graduate of Brewton Parker College, receiving her Associate’s Degree in Education, and also teaching as well.  When she moved to Camden County, later she met Mr. Calvin W. Lang, Sr, and worked with him at Lang’s Seafood in the office, taking care of the bookeeping and anything else that needed to be done.  A loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and friend, you never saw Mrs. Lang without that beautiful smile on her face.  She was a member of the Over The Hill Gang, a group that met at least once a week for an outing, and has been in existence for 35 years.  Mrs. Lang was a member of the St. Marys United Methodist Church.
Survivors include her husband, Calvin W. Lang, Sr., two sons, Calvin Lang, Jr. (Lisa), and David Lang (Amy) all of St. Marys; sister, Sylvia Mitchell of Vidalia; brother, Kelly Purvis of Weatherford, TX; five grandchildren, Tripp Lang, Anna Hendrix, Matt Fulford, Drew Lang and Ally Lang, four great grandchildren, Riley Lang, Crew Lang, Emmie Grace Hendrix and Lawson Lang Hendrix; several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive family and friends on Tuesday, February 14, 2017 from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm at Allison Memorial Chapel in St. Marys.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, February 15, 2017 at the St. Marys United Methodist Church at 4:00 pm with Pastor Tom Jones officiating.  Interment will follow at Oak Grove Cemetery.

John O. Kelly – February 9, 2017

John O. Kelly, 74, of St. Marys passed away Thursday, February 9, 2017 at Magnolia Manor, St. Simons Island, GA.
He was retired from the United States Navy.  A private interment will be held at the Jacksonville National Cemetery.
