Carole Doellen Schmid Burton, 68, passed away Sunday, March 5, 2017, at her
residence surrounded by her loving family.
Carole was born in Ft Sill, Oklahoma, October 12, 1948. She was the daughter
of the late Colonel Eldon Woerner and Dolores Lancaster Schmid. She was also
preceded in death by her grandparents, Emmett Ells and Vera Parsons Schmid
Drewry and Robert E. and Marie Gulley Lancaster.
She graduated from Burges High School, El Paso, Texas after having lived in
25 different places. She graduated from Southern Seminary Junior College in
Buena Vista, Virginia where she met Wayne who was a cadet at VMI. Then
graduated from the University of Maryland where she was a member of Alpha
Delta Pi Sorority. Carole also became a certified Montessori Directress.
While living in Albuquerque, New Mexico for over 30 years she was an
enrolled agent and owned her own tax preparation business. She and her
husband moved to St Marys, Georgia in December 2007.
Carole is a member of the Federated Woman’s Club holding various offices
including club president and a state office. She was chairman of the New
Mexico Hugh O’Brian Youth Seminar (HOBY). She taught in children’s Sunday
school for many years. She was also active in the Boy Scouts and Little
League. She also enjoying bowling, playing bridge and researching family
Carole and Wayne enjoyed 47 years together with many wonderful trips to
Australia, New Zealand, UK and Europe; especially Viking River Cruises.
Carole is survived by her husband Wayne Burton of St Marys, her son Scott
Randolph Burton (Irene), grandson Noah Jeremiah of Los Lunas, New Mexico;
her son Craig Montgomery Burton (Tracy), grandson Max Allen of Santa
Services will be held at the First Presbyterian Church in St Marys, Georgia,
Saturday, March 11, 2017 at 2:00 pm with Pastor Rick Douylliez officiating.
The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to services.
Interment will be held at Green Hill Cemetery, Buena Vista, Virginia near
Virginia Military Institute where she met her beloved husband in 1966.
