Madeline M. Cortez – May 12, 2017

Madeline Michelle Cortez, 65, of Woodbine, passed away Friday, May 12, 2017 at her residence.

Born May 29, 1951, she was the daughter of the late Lee and Joan Cummins.

She is survived by a daughter Sarah Michelle Moore of Ewa Beach, Hawaii

A Celebration of Life will be held later in Hawaii.

Kyle C. Walker – May 11, 2017

Kyle Craig Walker, 53, of Kingsland passed away Thursday, May 11, 2017 at Memorial Hospital in Jacksonville.
Kyle was born December 18, 1963 in Jacksonville, FL.  He has been a resident of Camden County all his life and was a Fireman at Kings Bay Naval Station.  His career was brief due to an auto accident that left him in a wheel chair for the rest of his life.
Kyle had many wonderful caregivers in the 33 years after his injury.  He made a difference in many lives, and loved life with a passion.  He will forever be in our hearts, and gave so much love to his family, that words cannot describe the love he received in return.  His light will shine brightly in heaven for ever more.  He was a member of the Kingsland First Baptist Church.
Survivors include his parents, James Clough Walker and Nadine Burch Walker of Kingsland; two brothers, Christopher Walker (Susan) of Kingsland and Tyler Walker (Karen) of Orange Park, FL; three nieces, Noel Thomas, Shelby Walker, and Elizabeth Walker, nephew, Dylan Walker, great niece, Elloise Thomas, and aunt, Charlotte Walker Bacon.
Memorial services will be held Saturday, May 20, 2017 at 2:00 pm at the Kingsland First Baptist Church with Pastor Brian Parker, Rev. Vernon Dillingham, and Pastor Bobby Woods officiating.  The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to services.
The family requests memorial contributions in memory of Kyle C. Walker be made to the Kingsland First Baptist or to Shepherd Center ( Spinal Injury Rehabilitation), www.shepherd.org

Mary Regina Stanton – May 9, 2017

Mary Regina Stanton, 75, of Woodbine, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, May 9, 2017.
Born November 2, 1941 in Nanty-Glo, PA, she was the daughter of the late Michael and Mary Konsavich.  She was also
preceded in death by her husband, James Stanton, Sr.
Mrs. Stanton loved going to church, playing Bingo, and spending time with her family.  She was a generous and giving woman.
Survivors include her children, Pearl Marie Jones (Mark) of Amarillo, TX, James Stanton, Jr. (Pauline) of FL, Tammy Reynolds of Waycross, Michael Stanton (Tina) of NY, and Matthew Stanton (Dana) of Waycross; grandchildren, Sharon Bennett, Mark Jones, Jr., Robert Jones, Brandy Blassingame, and Mikey Stanton; great grandchildren, Erika, Junior, Sebastian, Cecelia, Juliyanna, Nyte, Emma, Summer, Lilly, Kurumi, and Kairi; brothers, Joseph Konsavich and James Konsavich; sisters, Catherine McDermott and Sophie Buige; several nieces and nephews.
A Funeral Mass will be held Friday, May 12, 2017 at 1:00 pm at Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church with Fr. Mariusz officiating.  Burial will follow at Lawnwood Cemetery.
Pallbearers: James Stanton, Mike Stanton, Matt Stanton, Kevin Deen, Brandon Bennett, and Jacob Jones.

Edna “Judy” Weldon – May 8, 2017

Edna “Judy” Adkins Weldon, 80, of St. Marys, passed away Monday, May 8, 2017 at Piedmont Henry Hospital in Stockbridge, Georgia.
Born November 22, 1936 in Cordele, GA, she was the daughter of the late Julian and Edna Adkins.  She was also preceded in death by her husband, Edwin Weldon, and daughter, Kristen Elizabeth Weldon.
Mrs. Judy had been a resident of Camden County since 1956, before moving to McDonough, GA, to be with her family 14 years ago.  She was a Teacher with the Camden County School System, retiring in 2003.  She enjoyed sewing, was an avid Atlanta Braves fan, and member of the St. Marys United Methodist Church.  She was a loving mother, grandmother and sister.
Survivors include her son, Lance Weldon (Rachel) of McDonough; two brothers, John Adkins (Genell) of Arabi, and J.W. Adkins of Vienna; two grandchildren, Whitney Elizabeth Weldon and Garrick Edwin Weldon; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, May 13, 2017 at St. Marys United Methodist Church at 3:00 pm with Pastor Todd Jones officiating. The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to service time.  Interment to follow at Oak Grove Cemetery.

Sandra K. Padilla – May 6, 2017

Sandra Kay Padilla, 63, of St. Marys, passed away Saturday, May 6, 2017 at Southeast Georgia Health System Camden Campus.
Born November 3, 1953 in Willacoochee, GA, she was the daughter of the late Clarence and Betty Sharpe Crosby.  She was also preceded in death by her sister, Margaret Griner, and two brothers, Eddie Crosby and Bobby Crosby.
Mrs. Padilla had been a resident of Camden County for the past 30 years. She was the co-owner of Prime Time Video and a member of the Lighthouse Church of God.  She enjoyed cooking and spending time with her family.
Survivors include her husband, Rick Padilla of St. Marys; daughter, Dewyse Griffis (Raymond) of Lawtey, FL and son, Jason Jones (Ashley) of Kingsland; four grandchildren, Amanda, Jessica, Angela, and Brayden; several great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
A gathering of friends and family will be held Tuesday, May 9th, from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm at Allison Memorial Chapel in St. Marys.  Burial will be held at the Willacoochee Cemetery in Willacoochee.

Hazel Jean Portulas – May 4, 2017

     Hazel Jean Portulas, 95, of Fernandina Beach, FL, passed away peacefully on Thursday, May 4, 2017 at her residence.
Born April 25, 1922 in Drumheller, Alberta Canada, she was the daughter of the late Guy E. and Dell G. Haymond.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Salvador “Bubba” Portulas and daughter, Sandy Portulas Steedley.
Mrs. Portulas had been a resident of Brunswick, GA, since 1943 then moving to Fernandina Beach, FL where she had resided since 1981.  She is one of Jehovah’s Witnesses, staying ever faithful until her death.  She was a homemaker, enjoyed gardening, growing beautiful flowers and always setting a fine example for her family.
Survivors include her son, Guy Portulas and daughter, Barbara Portulas Pope (Stan), all of Fernandina Beach, FL.  She was also survived by seven grandchildren, twelve great grandchildren, one great great grandchild, and several nieces and nephews.
Memorial Services will be held at a later date.

Lillian Bachlott Young – April 25, 2017

Lillian E. Young (Bachlott), age 91, of Pompano Beach, FL passed-away peacefully on April 25th, 2017.

She was born in Campville, FL to parents John Robert Bachlott and Helen Bachlott (Bailey).

She is survived by her only child John “Fred” Young of Melbourne, FL and her sister Helen Pennington (Bachlott) of Moncks Corner, SC.

She began her working career during WWII in Oak Ridge, TN as a secretary and a payroll clerk. She later worked for Graybar Electric in Jacksonville, FL, enjoying her time with coworkers and close friends there.  After surviving two marriages (1947 and 1957) and two years in the Caribbean, she landed in Ft. Lauderdale in 1964 and has been in the area ever since.  Lillian worked in the payroll department of Collins Construction Co. and finished raising her son “Fred” in Ft. Lauderdale.  She later moved to a condo in Palm-Aire Country Club for retirement.  She enjoyed visiting relatives in SC and TN.  She also enjoyed keeping-up with local news, national news, and the political scene.  She requested to be buried with her ancestors at the historical Oak Grove Cemetery in St. Mary’s, GA.

Therefore, a celebration of life ceremony will be held at the Allison Memorial Chapel and Funeral Home in St. Mary’s GA at 11:00 AM on Saturday, May 13th, 2017.

Ghianna Lavone Johnson – May 3, 2017

Gigi Johnson, 9 years old, was called to heaven Wednesday, May 3, 2017.

After eight and a half years of a long battle due to a serious wreck, Gigi is now playing, singing, and dancing with the angels.  She was such a happy, sassy and opinionated child and was loved by everyone she touched.  She will always be in our hearts and will never be forgotten.

Gigi was born in St. Marys on January 1, 2008. She enjoyed drawing, painting and coloring, and especially watching My Little Ponies and U Tube for Kids.

A Celebration of Gigi’s Life will be held on Sunday, May 7th, at 2:00 pm at Crooked River State Park.

Survivors include her mother, Stephanie Johnson, sister AyraBella Johnson, grandparents, Lavonne Phillips and Stevie Johnson; numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and extended family.
