Hugh “Doug” Rowland – March 17, 2017

Hugh D. Rowland, 79, of Kingsland passed away Friday, March 17, 2017 at his residence.
Born April 3, 1937 in Buford, GA, he was the son of the late Thomas and Maggie Maria Ledford Rowland.  He was also preceded in death by four brothers and two sisters.
Mr. Rowland was known to his family and many friends as “Doug”.  He was a veteran of the United States Navy, retiring in 1985 with 30 years of service.  He had been a resident in Camden County since 1980, and enjoyed woodworking and working in the garden.  He liked having the children from Noah’s Ark come out and plant potatoes and digging them up so they could see how potatoes grow.  He was a member of the Kingsland First United Methodist Church.
Survivors include his loving wife of 34 years, Barbara Jones Rowland of Kingsland; son, Raymond Rowland (Janice) and daughter, Kimberly Bowers (Donnie) all of Wellsboro, PA, son, Lance Rowland (Kim) of New Milford, PA; step-children, Sherry Kellogg of Omaha, NE, Jerry Kellogg (Earleene), and Donald Kellogg (Mary) all of Edgemont, SD, and Sondra Kellogg of Marysville, KS; sisters, Verona Johnson of Winter Haven, FL, Shelly Jean Harrison of Roopville, GA, Brenda Reed (Gary) of Bessemeer, AL, and Linda Parker (David) of Lawrenceville, GA; 12 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Memorial services will be held Thursday, March 23, 2017 at 11:00 am at the Kingsland First United Methodist Church with Pastor Devin Schultz officiating.  The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to services.  Inurnment will be held at the Jacksonville National Cemetery with full military honors.
The family requests memorial contributions in memory of “Doug” be made to Hospice of the Golden Isles of Brunswick or the Kingsland First United Methodist Church.
Allison Memorial Chapel and Funeral Home of St. Marys is in charge of arrangements.
