Calvin Wilson Lang, Sr. – April 27, 2018

Calvin Wilson Lang, Sr., 91, of St. Marys passed away Friday, April 27, 2018 at his residence with his family by his side.
Mr. Lang was a lifelong resident of St. Marys, GA, and was the son of the late William G. Lang, Sr., and Emmie P. Lang.  He was also preceded in death by his loving wife, Virginia Purvis Lang and daughter, Mary Lang Fulford.
He was a graduate of St. Marys High School, a veteran of the United States Navy, serving his country honorably during WW II, and a member of St. Marys United Methodist Church.
As a second generation shrimper, it was Calvin Lang who set the course to give the distinct title of Rock Shrimp Capital, and stayed the course, fueling his industry for future generations from one to four to seven shrimp boats at one time.  He owned Lang’s East Marina, Lang’s West Marina which had enough dockage space for 100 boats, Lang’s Seafood Restaurant that has received national acclaim and also Ferry Boats that make the trips to our historic Cumberland Island.  Mr. Lang achieved what many men only aspire to: the respect of his employees, his peers, and his community.  He will be loved and missed by his family and many friends.
Survivors include his two sons, Calvin Lang, Jr. (Lisa) and David Lang (Amy) both of St. Marys; five grandchildren, Tripp Lang, Anna Hendrix, Matt Fulford, Drew Lang, and Ally Lang; five great grandchildren, Riley Lang, Crew Lang, Emmie Grace Hendrix, Lawson Lang Hendrix and Huckleberry Fulford; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, May 1, 2018 at 3:00 pm at St. Marys United Methodist Church with Pastor Tom Jones officiating.  Burial will follow at Oak Grove Cemetery with military honors.  The family will receive friends at Allison Memorial Chapel on Monday, April 30th,  from 5:00 to 7:00 pm
Pallbearers: Drew Lang, Matt Fulford, Tripp Lang, Miles Hendrix, John Miller, Roy Lang, James “Buddy” McGhin and Jay Lassiter.
Honorary: Roland Eskridge, Flem Hall, Jerry Lockhart, Kenneth Harrison, Jerry Brandon, Pete Brandon, Jim Dickey, Bill Smith, Nathaniel Wilson and Charles Floyd.
Allison Memorial Chapel and Funeral Home of St. Marys is in charge of arrangements.

    I had the pleasure of working for Mr Lang years ago at the shrimp dock.He was always nice to me and gained my respect and admiration.So sorry to hear of his passing,prayers for the family in this difficult time.

    Mr. Lang was a good friend to the Nassau Sport Fishing Association. His contributions were greatly appreciated and helped make our Kingfish Tournament and Fishing Rodeo a success. He will be missed. With his passing, we wish to extend our sincere condolences to his family.
