H.E. “Gene” Holcomb, 74, of St. Marys, passed away Sunday, January 18, 2015 at Southeast Georgia Health System, Camden Campus.
Born June 3, 1940 in Marietta, GA, he was the son of the late Julius Newton Holcomb and the late Cleona Elizabeth Rainey Holcomb. He was also preceded in death by his brother, Robert Holcomb.
Mr. Holcomb had resided in Camden County for the past 5 years, was retired from the Macon Water Authority, and also a 50 year member of the Atlanta Water Works Association. He was a member of the Kingsland First Baptist Church. He was an avid golfer, and enjoyed camping, boating on the St. Marys river, and reading.
Mr. Holcomb took great pride in his charity works and spreading the word of Jesus. He did this through many organizations: the Louise Moon Mission, Campus Crusade for Christ, the Kairos Prison Ministry, the Walk to Emmaus and Water for People, traveling to Honduras to help build water systems.
Memorial services will be held Tuesday, January 27, 2015, at the Kingsland First Baptist Church at 11 am, with Pastor John Jenkins officiating.
Survivors include his loving wife of 54 years, Ann Holcomb of St. Marys; children, Libba Griffin (Phil) of Lakeland, FL, Dr. Bill Holcomb of Hattiesburg, MS, and Julie Hayley (Ian) of Macon; grandchildren, Dylan Griffin (Brittany), Gaines Griffin, and Emma Hayley. As well as many nieces, nephews and extended family.
