Jeanette King, 76, of St. Marys, passed away Friday, February 6, 2015 at St. Vincent’s Hospital in Jacksonville, FL.
Jeanette crossed the threshold from this world of time to the eternal to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
She was born in Saint Joseph, Michigan on May 29, 1938, one of three children born to Alfred and Irene (Phelps) Pitcher. Those that preceded her in death were two sisters: Joyce Danneffel and Geraldine Griffis. Surviving is her husband Richard King of St. Marys, GA and two daughters: Sharon (Roger) McCoy of Ellijay, GA and Kileen (Gary) Cassiday of Tallahassee, FL and her beloved grandchildren: Marci (Nick) Hatcher, Clint (Erin) Strefling, Christina (Morgan) Bolt, and Rachel Cassiday. Also surviving are her step children Rick (Rosa) King, Debra (Ray) Garza, David (Sonya) King and Becky (Darren) Fleming and their eleven children and four great grandchildren.
Jeanette grew up on a farm in Lawrence, Michigan and graduated from Lawrence High School in 1956.
She and her husband Dick were married May 29, 1971 and moved to St. Marys, GA in 1987. Jeanette retired from Kings Bay Naval Submarine Base where she was known to many on the wharf as, “mom.”
Jeanette was an active member of the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Kingsland, GA where she was sometimes referred to as, “Martha” for her dedication to serving. Recently she received an award for her volunteer work assembling Braille Bibles for the past five years.
She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Jeanette will be deeply missed by her friends, family, and all who knew her.
The viewing will be Tuesday, February 10 at 4:30 pm at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Kingsland, GA with the service following at 5:30 pm. Interment will be held at Jacksonville National Cemetery.
