Michael Edward Schmidt, Sr., 73, of Woodbine, GA., died Thursday, August 27, 2015.
Mr. Schmidt was born in Tacoma, WA., and moved to Woodbine in 1988.
He served in the U.S. Navy from 1960 to 1980, retiring at the rank of ETCS (E8). He worked for the U.S. Government at the Trident Training Facility at Kings Bay Naval Submarine Base, retiring in 2001.
Mr. Schmidt was a member of King of Peace Episcopal Church in Kingsland. He was also a member of the Fraternal Order of the Eagles, the American Legion, and the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Eileen (Klein) Schmidt; a sister, Janice Kitson; and a brother, Henry Schmidt, Jr.
Survivors include his wife of 37 years, Sandra I. (Roberts) Schmidt of Woodbine; two daughters, Marla E. Lombardo (Michael) of Bethlehem, PA., and Gayle M. Horton (Michael) of Gainesville, Fl.; two sons, Steven C. Brown of Hortense, GA., and Michael Edward Schmidt Jr. (Stacey) of Flowery Branch, GA.; four sisters, Nadine Wright (Gene), Linda Ross (Mike) and Judith Neilson (George Tyler), all of Washington State, and Jerrie Raymond (Larry) of Arizona; a brother, Don Gaul (Donna) of Washington State; and six grandchildren, Timothy D. Stough, Ryan C. Lombardo, Bradley M. Schmidt, Lillian K. Brown, Zachary C. Brown and Lauren E. Schmidt.
Services will be held Monday, August 31, 2015, at 2 p.m. at King of Peace Episcopal Church in Kingsland, with the Reverend Al Crumpton officiating, and full Military Honors. An inurnment will be in the outside Columbarium at King of Peace Episcopal Church at a later date.
Allison Memorial Chapel and Funeral Home of St. Marys is in charge of arrangements.
