David M. Simons, 61, of St. Marys passed away Wednesday, September 9, 2015 at Southeast Georgia Health System, Camden Campus.
David was a devoted and beloved husband, father, grandfather, son, and brother. Growing up, he attended Princess Anne Baptist Church and once moving to Camden joined Kingsland First Baptist Church where he served as an adult Sunday School teacher at various times.
David attended 2 years of college at Old Dominion University continuing his education when he began his civil service career at Norfolk Naval Shipyard where he graduated from the apprenticeship program with honors in 1986. Positions he held included supervisor, technical support, building manager, and safety officer. He suggested many improvements and technical equipment suggestions which garnered recognition. During his long career of federal civil service, he was recognized with various awards including many on the spot awards by his
command. Specific awards included: Production Supervisor of the Quarter TRF, Production Employee of the Year TRF, Production Employee of the Quarter TRF. In addition, he received many certificates including CISCO networking.
David enjoyed building and flying remote comtrol airplanes as a hobby. He was a member of the Kings Bay RC Modelers’ Club in which he held several leadership roles. His intelligence, sense of humor, love and compassion will make him sorely missed by family and friends.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, September 12, 2015 at 2pm at the Kingsland First Baptist Church with Rev. Vernon Dillingham officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Grove Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church at 1 pm, one hour prior to service time.
Pallbearers: Christopher Martin, Travis Simons, Gregg Moore, Jeff Howard, Rob Fenstermaker, and Steve Royer.
Survivors include his wife, Eileen Taylor Simons of St. Marys; mother, Rosa Modlin Simons of Virginia Beach, VA; children, Heather Simons McMillan (Mark), Joshua Lee Simons (Darcy) of St. Marys, and Katie Elizabeth Simons of Macon; brothers, Robert Simons (Sharon) and James Simons, Jr (Amanda); sister, Laura Simons Martin; grandchildren, Kylie Simons, Sarah Simons, Hananiah Simons, Andrew McMillan, Tabitha McMillan, and Grace McMillan; several nieces and nephews. David was preceded in death by his father, James H. Simons, Sr.
The family requests Memorial Contributions be made to the National Marfan Foundation.
