Lance H. Smith Jr., 78, of Kingsland, passed away, Saturday, October 24th, 2015 at UF Health Shands Hospital in Jacksonville, FL. He was born October 20th, 1937, in Gates County, North Carolina to the late Lucile Hazel Smith and the late Lance H. Smith Sr.
Lance was a loving husband and dedicated father, who enjoyed people. His welcoming personality was infectious. Lance had the ability to speak with anyone and everyone, he never met a stranger. Lance, along with his family, moved to Camden County, in 1992, where he began to work at Kings Bay Naval Base. He was a member of the US Navy Civil Service for 47 years and retired from Kings Bay Naval Base (TRF) in 2013. He attended Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church in St. Mary’s, Georgia.
He lives on, through his loving wife of 33 years, Evelyn Smith, his two daughters, Lovely (Brian) Hammett and April Smith, and his son, Carlton Smith. His memory also continues through his two sisters and brother: Emiline (and the late Leon) Umphlett, Mary Lou (Ray) Bracy, and John (Margaret) Smith, along with many other friends and family members, who loved and cherished his life.
Family and friends are welcome to celebrate his life with a funeral service on Saturday, October 31st, 2015 at Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church in St. Marys at 10:00 am with Deacon Joe Bezy officiating. The family will receive friends at 9:15 am prior to the service.
