“Bob” Robert Henry Deen, 88, passed peacefully with his immediate family at his side on Wednesday January 6th, 2016 at Camden Hospital departing for his life’s work.
Life’s path led him to many places but he always found comfort/home in South Georgia –
Born Oct 9, 1927 in his childhood home in Pearson, attended Glynn Academy High School, graduating Pearson High School in 1945, sought knowledge at South Georgia College and ABAC, served in the U.S. Army Air Corp in the Philippines 1946-47, returned to the US to work as a Switchman with the Georgia/Florida Railroad, and managed construction team as Foreman at Dupont Corporation in Augusta for 2 years before joining Gilman Paper Company in 1953 with 42 years of service retiring in 1996.
His Christian life was a lifelong belief in betterment of himself and positive support of everyone.
He joined the St. Mary’s United Methodist Church in 1954, served dutifully on the Board of Trustees, Administrative Board, Pastor Parrish Committee, Finance and Nominating Committee, and Evangelism Committee. He was responsible for the Greeters that are at the doors of each service and member of the Pilgrim Sunday School Class.
He was a member of the Masonic Lodge from 1953 to present, achievements include Master Degree in 1954, member of the Royal Arch and Council, President of Shriners Camden County, Worship Master of Blue Lodge, Worship Master of Council and Royal Arch, Worship Master of Shriners – Savannah, Eastern Star, Scottish Rite – Jacksonville, FL, and Worship Master of Commandery – Brunswick.
He was always active in football and baseball, belonged to the Camden County Recreational Authority, and loved to go work out at the gym. Many recall his excitement from the 70’s and 80’s CCHS football games.

Preceded in Death by – father James Elias Deen, mother Doris Dickerson Deen, and sister – Wynelle McCorkle
Survived by – wife of 58 yrs Mildred Deen, children Randy (Cindee) of Jacksonville & Michael (Melissa) Deen, grandchildren Randall, Austin, Brandon, and Chandler Deen, sister Beth Paulk of Willacoochee.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, January 16, 2016 at the St. Marys United Methodist Church at 1:00 pm, with the Rev. Tom Jones and Rev. Wayne Moseley officiating. Burial to follow at Oak Grove Cemetery with Military Honors and Masonic Rites. The family will receive friends on Friday, January 15th, from 5 pm to 7 pm at Allison Memorial Chapel in St. Marys.
